Perspective

by Makai Kim

I wake yet sleep,

In the place where the spirits creep,

Where the departed ponder

And as nomads aimlessly wander.

I am sleeping awake,

Alive but dead on the nether lake.

Among the souls deceased I sail,

Lives ended but continuing their tale.

Life ends;

Love ends;

But souls push onward

Beyond the bend.

Memories have flitted away,

Like leaves held by the wind’s sway.

I contemplate my life, what it used to be,

As I slowly lose what composes me.

I reach the shore,

And step thereon to travel forevermore;

To wander with others yet be alone,

Where the sun’s light has never shone.

Life ends;

Love ends;

But souls push onward

Beyond the bend.

Silently, I traverse the shadowy sands,

Where light passes only dimly in scattered strands.

Here, life ends but does not.

Love ends for the ever distraught.

But is this forever?

Shall I have peace again truly never?

Am I doomed to ever live this death,

To sleep awake without breath?

Life ends;

Love ends;

But souls push onward

Beyond the bend.

I see the weeping willows in their tears wallow

In a cold vast hollow.

Their tears stream in never ending sorrow,

Which fill me with a dreadful harrow.

Then I come upon a lively fire,

Dancing to the tune of a lyre,

And around which spirits laughed and smiled.

One of them said to me after seeing me come from the wild:

Life goes on;

Love goes on;

And souls move forward

In an unending song.
